We’ve all looked at the cover of magazines and thought, “Wow, she looks great. How could I look like that?” Quickly remembering, shortly thereafter, that the woman on the cover of a magazine like InStyle or Vogue also probably has a full-scale glamsquad behind her including a personal stylist. But what if the benefits of a stylist were more easily accessible? After all, in 2016, regular women with great cameras can become celebrities on Instagram, and beautiful girl-next-door types can become reality TV stars.

We spoke to the founders of Style Suite, a traveling personal styling event. Currently the program is in Beta phase, servicing only New York, and has conducted nearly 30 events. In one day, the Style Suite’s glam and style team provide participants with guidance and guidelines based on your body, goals, personality etc. They transform you to your most fabulous self and you go home with a brand new look and outfit. (Not bad for only $180!) While we at Poetic Justice Jeans agree that the most radiant thing about a woman is found inside her soul, we also recognize that feel or not feeling secure and confident can affect our souls.

Founder Vee Anderson told us her story about how she started to become more conscious about the relationship between fashion and confidence, which ultimately inspired her to start Style Suite:

“Believe it or not, being fashionable was never “my thing”. I could sing, dance, cook a great meal, successfully manage financial accounts, juggle, and even tend to a garden. But for whatever reason, being stylish was never part of my agenda. It wasn’t until I joined a local community service project that I recognized how my style (or lack thereof) impacted me. After a long session, a small group of volunteers, all women, and I went out for lunch as a sort of bonding activity. We had already been working together for a few weeks and were on very cordial terms. I vividly remember going around the table and listening intently to each woman’s story. However, one woman named Stephanie stood out the most to me. Rather than beginning with her full name and age, as everyone had done before her, she asked the group to excuse the way she was dressed. Due to the nature of our volunteer work, it was probably the least the furthest thing from our mind and I’m sure no one had even noticed how each of us had dressed.

She explained, “ I rarely leave the house like this, but since we are building houses, I thought this outfit would be okay.”

Most of the women laughed and nodded in agreement. I remember this strange feeling that grew within me as I began to question my own clothing selection, especially because it was something I would wear on a typical weekend afternoon. Another woman in my volunteer group named Amanda whispered to me on our way out of the restaurant,” is there something wrong with what we are wearing?” What could possibly be wrong with a pair of jeans, a comfortable t-shirt and tennis shoes? Absolutely nothing. As I walked to my car, I stopped to pay attention to the women walking through the city. While most women seemed content with their styling options, the women who appeared to be even more “stylish” had a glow. I went home and deeply analyzed my closet and tried to figure out if there was something I was missing.”

In her moment of self-doubt Vee made the decision to seek the help of a professional stylist. Her stylist interviewed her about her goals and preferences. After assessing her body type and guiding her through Macy’s, the stylist pulled items that Vee would have never even considered. Though skeptical, Vee obliged and tried them on, but when she stepped out she was “amazed.”

“Everything from the color of my skin to my curves was tastefully complimented,” she said. However, when Vee came arrived at her office glowing from cheek to cheek, her co-workers stopped and asked for her secret. Where did she get that outfit? Why was she so happy? The response was not met with excitement. Who could pay that much for a personal stylist when they had children to feed and average incomes? She was inspired to create Style Suite, a service program that made the luxurious, pampering experience of stylist accessible to the everyday woman.

“Shortly thereafter, I had my first Style Suite. It was a very, very small operation with only a hand full of women, my stylist and another. We chatted for about an hour talking about the benefits of being fashionable and how it impacts your outlook on everyday life and confidence levels. We then went to the very same Macy’s and the stylists picked out an outfit for each of the women who attended. Everyone had the same confident glow coming out of their respective dressing rooms. Many of the women commented on feeling extremely “pretty” or “amazing in a way they had never been before. Since then, I have used Style Suite as a way to bring the everyday stylist (and now makeover) to the everyday woman who without would not be able to afford or have the resources to make a make over possible. Each time I host a Style Suite, the women are just completely floored with the results and instantly began to ooze confidence. “

Style Suite had teamed up with Strategy Chic, an event planning service, to take the program to a national scale, and the full circuit is scheduled to launch in early Fall 2016. To join the waitlist email hello@thestrategychic.com.
